AIDS and HIV Opportunistic Infections
June 19, 2008 by Tammy · Leave a Comment
The tragic news is that if you have been infected with the HIV, you may not show any signs or symptoms of that infection for some time. While you might feel as if you have the flu or just a bad cold, most people simply brush those feelings off. Even those who frequently fight a fever or sore throat or even swollen glands typically feel like it is “just a little bug”…you certainly don’t go right away and think, oh, wow, I might have AIDS. The virus can lie quietly in your body for some time, all the while eating away at your immune system. It is this stealthy little menace that is killing millions, even decades after it was first recognized. Read more
Wart Removal and Treatment

How do you get rid of warts?
Getting rid of warts is a very common question as millions of people are affected by some type of wart on their body. It is also a question that is yet to be answered with 100% certainty by doctors today.
Warts have long been a common problem for people every where and after much research and testing, we are all still not able to discover how to get rid of warts for good.
For the most part warts are not usually all that serious a problem. The problem is that they are not pretty to look at and they can certainly spread to other parts of your body, but there is little chance of them causing any serious harm or damage.
There are several different varieties of warts you can get such as:
Flat Warts - These are the small and round warts. This type of wart can spread very easily. Avoid scratching or picking at these warts and the area around them. Flat warts are most common on the face and on the legs. The problem and difficulty with this type of wart is that they can sometimes generate in large groups of them at once.
Plantar Warts - These are the warts that generally appear on the bottom your foot (the plantar fasciitis area of the foot). However, they can also set in on the palm of your hand and fingers as well. These warts can become irritating and even quite painful as they develop because of their location and your body weight is being pressed against them when you either stand or walk.
Genital Warts - These warts are the most undesirable of all warts simply because of the location of them on your body. You can contract genital warts by engaging in sexual contact with someone affected with genital warts.
So, how do I get rid of my warts?
Because warts are such a common problem there are many different methods and theories that have been developed for getting rid of warts.
Certainly the quickest and most effective way in ridding yourself of warts is to make an appointment with your doctor or dermatologist and have them treated or removed directly. Again, this is the easiest and quickest way of all.
Avoid contact with it - Many times a bothersome wart will disappear on its own. Certainly this is not the quickest way to relieve yourself of the wart nor would it be the most successful way either, because trying to wait the wart out just may not happen.
It is important to note that if you do have a wart(s) try to avoid contact with it such as rubbing or scratching it as you will increase the chances of it spreading or becoming larger. And if this happens then obviously there is less chance of becoming wart free anytime soon.
Keep as dry as possible - Environmentally speaking, warts are more likely to generate in a damp environment, especially plantar warts, try to keep your feet and toes as dry as you can and there will be less chance of a wart finding an environment on you to grow in.
If you have the problem with warts that are spreading or seem to be multiplying or you have a wart that in unusually large or discolored, you should contact your doctor/dermatologist as soon as possible. If you develop genital warts, you certainly should contact your doctor and do not try to treat these yourself.
There are many more ways in which you can fight warts than is allowed by the scope of this article. Currently there is no cure or ultimate prevention from getting any of the various types of warts, but many treatments to rid yourself of warts are quite effective.
As with any type of conditions that affects your body and potentially your health, the best advice is to consult with your primary care physician or your dermatologist if you have one. If you don’t yet have a dermatologist your doctor may very well refer you to one so you can get the proper and most effective treatment for the type of wart that you have.

Fibromyalgia Treatment
May 22, 2008 by Tammy · Leave a Comment
Fibromyalgia treatment must be individualized due to the fact that the symptoms of fibromyalgia vary so much from patient to patient. Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder characterized by extreme pain and tenderness in multiple muscles and joints. The pain occurs in areas where the muscles attach to bone or ligaments.
The pain of fibromyalgia is felt all over spreading out from the spine over large areas of the body. The pain can be a muscle twitching to a burning sensation. Fibromyalgia pain can continue throughout a person’s lifetime.
Fibromyalgia treatments should combine trigger point therapy, stress reduction, regular exercise and medications. Trigger point therapy is a technique where pressure is applied to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body.
There are two basic types of trigger points: active and latent. Active trigger points cause muscular pain and will refer pain and tenderness to another area of the body when pressure is applied. Latent trigger points only exhibit pain when pressed upon, they do not refer pain to other areas of the body. Trigger point therapy is used to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain free habits.
Stress reduction with the use of relaxation techniques is another type of fibromyalgia treatment. This is used to ease muscle tension and anxiety in the body. There are three major types of relaxation techniques that can be used. Autogenic training is a technique that uses both visual imagery and body awareness to move a person into a deep state of relaxation. Progressive muscle relaxation involves slowly tensing and then releasing each muscle group individually. The third type of relaxation technique is meditation. This is the most popular form of relaxation techniques.
Another form of fibromyalgia treatment is regular exercise. Regular exercise is one of the best things you can do if you have fibromyalgia. You should begin with stretching exercises and gentle, low impact activity such as walking or bicycling. Don’t be surprised if the exercise makes your pain worse. Some muscle soreness is normal when you are starting to exercise. Eventually as you progress you will become more comfortable. The goal of regular exercise is to gain relief from pain and improve sleep.
Medications are another form or fibromyalgia treatment. Medications are used to help you sleep better, relax muscles, and relieve muscle and joint pain. Examples of medications that may be prescribed are tricyclic antidepressants, such as Amitriptyline or Elavil, muscle relaxants like Flexeril and nonprescription pain relievers like Advil or aspirin.
Fibromyalgia treatment should be tailored to meet individual needs. Some people with fibromyalgia have mild symptoms and need very little treatment while others require a comprehensive care program. There are many options available for fibromyalgia treatment so looking for a comprehensive answer to fibromyalgia pain is the best.
Back Pain and Bad Posture
May 22, 2008 by Tammy · Leave a Comment
There are lots of things that can cause a case of back pain.
Car accidents, heavy lifting, sudden movements, an injury or a fall as well as many other instances can cause back pain to present itself and as many of you already know the resulting back pain can be life altering and excruciating.
One of the easiest things to do to treat back pain is to stand up straight and to maintain good posture.
It is not just cosmetic.
Good posture is very important to help you get rid of that nagging back pain.
With poor posture, you are creating additional strain and pressure on the muscles of the back. When you do this then you are also adding more stress and pressure to the spinal cord.
If you keep it up and live with bad posture for a long period of time, then you can actually alter the spine itself. With these changes in the spine, then the blood vessels and the nerves located n the back may become constricted, and this can lead to problems with your back muscles and joints.
Proper posture is critical since it is proper posture that helps you to keep an adequate balance between the different parts of the body. If you are looking to determine if you exhibit proper posture then first of all you have to identify if the parts of your body are directly aligned.
If you are able to draw a straight line from your ankles to your earlobes, including a straight line through your shoulder, hips and knees then pat yourself on the back, you have good posture.
If you are looking to improve your posture, then first of all take a look at your current posture. During the day, take note of your posture and try to determine just when your posture is at its worst.
If you can figure out when your posture is at its worst then you’ve got a better shot at reducing your back pain related to poor posture.
Folks often have posture problems when they are sitting in chairs. Use the support that the chair offers. Do not slump forward. Slumping forward and not using the support of the chair can place extra strain on your lower back.
Consider buying an ergonomic chair in order to help you reduce your back pain. It is also important to remember that if you have been sitting for a long period of time, then get up and walk around. Stretch. Give your muscles a chance to stretch and relax.
Poor posture can contribute to back pain and it is one of the areas that you must work on when you are trying to get relief from the pain. Good posture is a cosmetic issue for sure but it is also an easy treatment for back pain too.

Treatment for Child’s Head Lice
May 22, 2008 by Tammy · Leave a Comment
It’s one of the easiest ways to realize that school is back in session. It is the thing that can drive both mothers and fathers crazy.
It is head lice.
Children come home from school with head lice infestation and after an aggressive round of treatment seem to better.
But a few weeks later, guess what, the head lice have returned along with another round of treatment. And so the saga that goes.
While there are many treatments on the market today known to successfully fight head lice infestations there are also some alternative medications that seem to work as well.
So you have the option of either getting a prescription strength medication, an over-the-counter medication, or researching and deciding on an alternative medicine for head lice treatment to so that you can see what might work best for your child.
While all of these treatments seem to be basic and known success stories of head lice treatment there is one somewhat controversial and perhaps strange, head lice treatment and that is the head lice treatment known as completely shaving your child’s head.
What on earth! Have you ever heard of completely shaving head to treat head lice? For those with a horrific infestations and seemingly resistant to less extreme treatments, shaving the head might not seem like a bad idea after all.
Using a pair of hair clippers and a razor simply begin by using the clippers to cut your hair down to an extremely short style, and then use a razor to shave your head and neck so that there is absolutely no hair left on the head. This hair lice treatment seems to work because as you shave your head completely not only will you be removing all of the hair but you will also be removing any lice that still dare to remain embedded on the hair shaft.
Once you have shaved your head completely use shampoo rubbed thoroughly into the scalp and allow it to stand there for a few minutes before washing it off so that when you rinse the shampoo off, any loose hairs as well as any remaining lice that might be attached to dead skin on the scalp can be washed down the drain. Repeat the scalp shampoo until you feel you have completely eliminated all hairs from your head.
Yes, this treatment can certainly sound quite radical, particularly for women with long beautiful hair. Also those in the medical community are not proponents of this radical treatment, choosing to remain with the more mainstream treatment methods for the elimination of lice infestations.
In fact it seems that the bald look is in! So maybe this treatment for head lice isn’t such a bad idea after all.
The head lice treatment may be a bit controversial; however, it may not be that much longer before you see it’s a proven treatment in the battle against head lice infestation. Strange, perhaps. But does it work? It sure does seem so.
